sammypeeps asked: Hi there,
I'm curious, on the piece you have 'sum of all parts' what program are you using to generate the graphics? A friend of mine used it for some work of hers but she couldn't remember what it is. any clues?
Thanks
Sam
Really..that’s cool!does she have a link? I would love to check it out..well I can’t exactly remember the open source website cuz I chanced upon it but it’s called application-1.macosx .
DIY Crystal Connector ring l process

You would need one of this DIY crystal thingy which you can grow on almost any (rough) surface. I replaced the original ‘seed’ ( White semicircle thingy) with my ring.

The ‘seed’ for the crystal to grow. Aim was to cover over as many tacky gems as possible…

Taping up the ‘finger’ section so that any crystal that develops there can be easily removed later on.

Suspending the ring so that the crystallization could take place properly..vertically on top if possible. It was also to hold the ring in place to minimize any movements for the next 2 weeks or so.

After pouring the hot dissolved solution into the container, there should be minimal movement for the particles to set.

This is after 48 hours. The solution starts to evaporate and chunks of crystals formed here and there..concentrating on the ring (YES!).

Another view.

4-5 days later…more chunks formed.

The solution would be fully evaporated by around 14 days. Problem now…the crystals are not forming at the side of the ring, some of the gems can still be seen (!!!)

I picked up little pieces of crystals on the bottom on the container, gathering them onto the ring so as to concentrate the growing there (Although the instructions insisted that you should not move it at all). Otherwise the crystals grown would be smaller and opaque…
As I predicted, there weren’t enough crystals formed to fully cover the ring so I repeated the entire process again with another box of solutions..This was what happened after a month…

Looks kinda gross now…yes. There’s also ‘Crystal climbing’, caused by the interaction of the surface tension of the crystal container and the adhesion on the container wall (I don’t get it as well).

Looks really frosty to me..a drastic change of the color and texture compared to 2 weeks ago before the new solution was added. Turns out I have been touching it too much (Itchy hands + curiosity). But the mint color can’t be explained…

The final result of the crystal with the ring almost covered.

Shocking discovery..the scotch-taped part of the ring turn blue..can’t wait to chisel off the extra parts to see what’s underneath.

So…

Final result. Sigh..now I to clean off the blue part…other than that, I’m quite satisfied with the result for a first timer!

I give up. lOl..This is the best I can do cause it almost seemed like it’s poisonous.

The black area within the ‘white line’ were supposed to be cropped out, thus revealing the different layers of the booklet.
